SACO, Maine — Police say a 74-year-old woman was killed and a 66-year-old man was charged with operating under the influence after his minivan struck her while she was crossing a street in Saco, Maine.

Sgt. Jeffrey Holland said Constance Orendorf, of Saco, was struck at about 9:45 a.m. Sunday while crossing Main Street. She was taken to Maine Medical Center, where she died Sunday afternoon.

Walter Fleury, of Old Orchard Beach, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs. He was released on $400 bail.

Holland said Fleury appeared to be impaired, but a breath test showed he hadn’t been drinking. Police are investigating whether medications or other factors played a role.

Saco police are seeking witnesses to the accident.
