Hermon scores 3 in sixth, wins District 3 title

    BANGOR — Alexis Hafford hit a two-run triple to highlight a three-run sixth inning that propelled the Hermon all-stars past Bangor 7-5 to win the District 3 title in softball for ages 11-12 Saturday.

Karli Theberge earned the win while striking out 10 for Hermon. Sydni Addessi hit a double.

Eve George, Taylor Simpson and Lilli Wiseman each hit two singles for Bangor.

Ellsworth 25, Machias 15

At Hampden, Katelynn Bagley hit three singles and drove in three runs to help push Ellsworth to victory over Machias.

Mariah Young hit two singles for Ellsworth and Alexandra Allen doubled with an RBI.

Hannah Batcherson hit an RBI single for Machias. Lydia Day and Amy McKinley each scored three runs.

At Bucksport, Austin Mason doubled and tripled to drive in four runs and help lead Bucksport to victory over Ellsworth.

Bucksport visits Ellsworth today at 5:30 p.m. to play for the championship.

Matt Vincent had two singles and four RBIs for Bucksport. Tyler Hayes added a triple, double and three RBIs. Cody Larson hit a double and a triple and Josh Geagan doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Trent Mahon tripled and scored to lead Ellsworth. Michael York hit a single.

At Bangor, Old Town scored eight runs in the first and fifth innings to defeat Holbrook Sunday.

Nick Magoon hit a triple and two singles to lead Old Town.

Tyler Timms doubled and singled for Holbrook.

At Bangor, Hampden scored a run in the bottom of the third to break the 3-3 tie and held on to beat Bangor East Sunday.

Ben Huston and Andrew Gendreau both hit two singles for Hampden.

Thomas Szewczyk triples and singled for Bangor East. Justin Smith doubled.

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Bangor sent 14 players to the plate and scored nine runs in topping Houlton Saturday.

Brenden Moore hit two doubles and two singles to knock in five runs to lead Bangor. Nick Ashey had a double, single and two runs. Reed Brookings hit an RBI double.

Alex Donovan doubled for Houlton.

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Tristan Gardner, Keegan Quigley and Kyle Clifford combined for a one-hit shutout in leading Hampden past Old Town Saturday.

Tristan Gardner had a triple, three singles and three RBIs for Hampden. James Gilmore hit a double, three singles and drovein two runs. Michael ward had three singles and two RBIs and Jeremy Kelsey hit two singles and three RBIs. Dan Good and Keegan Quigley both singled twice.

Adam Richardson hit a fifth-inning single for Old Town.

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Hermon scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth the pull away and eliminate Houlton Saturday.

Andrew Elston hit a double and two singles to drive in two runs for Hermon.

Nick Guiod singled twice for Houlton.

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Shawn Curran hit an RBI triple to highlight a three-run fifth inning that helped Holbrook eliminate Old Town Saturday.

Seth Pearson had two singles and an RBI for Holbrook.

Damian Everette doubled and drove in two runs for Old Town. Garvey Melmed hit two singles.

Brewer, Bangor East advance

At Houlton on Sunday, Brewer eliminated Bangor West 15-4 and Bangor East knocked out Hampden 9-3 to set up a 5 p.m. game today vs. those two winners in an elimination round.

The winner of the Brewer-Bangor East contest advances to a 5 p.m. Tuesday contest vs. Sebasticook.

  In Sunday’s first game, Zach Ireland smacked a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the second to help Bangor East prevail. Charlie Budd and Colby Smith each chipped in with two singles.

Connor Roy and Zach Flannery each singled twice to lead Hampden and Casey Sudbeck added an RBI double.

In the second game, Connor Roope singled three times and drove in three runs to spark Brewer. Miles Kirby contributed a triple, single and two RBIs and Evan Andrews added two singles, a double and two RBIs.

Gary Farnham doubled, singled and drove in a run for Bangor West while Ben Lane and Caleb Metcalf each had two singles with Lane driving in a run.

Guidelines for host team

For Little League baseball and softball all-star games, it is the responsibility of the host team to report the game to the BDN because the host is responsible for providing the official scorer.

The host team is encouraged to report the game as soon as possible on the day it is played and to provide highlights and details for both of the teams in the game. If details, including first names of players, are not given for both teams, then a story will not be published on the game.

The BDN asks for a complete linescore with score by innings and total runs, hits and errors along with all the pitchers and catchers, and innings they entered the game.

Highlights for both teams should include batters who get two or more hits, get an extra base hit or drive in runs.
