WATERVILLE, Maine — An Aurora man was in critical condition Sunday after he lost control of his motorcycle on Interstate 95 near Waterville and struck a guardrail.

Kenneth Stillwell, 51, was preparing to leave the highway just north of Waterville with a group of other bikers late Saturday morning when his motorcycle may have hydroplaned on the wet road surface, Maine State Police Sgt. Aaron Hayden said Sunday afternoon. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident, Hayden said.

Stillwell suffered serious injuries, including a partial amputation of the lower section of one leg, when he struck a guardrail, Hayden said.

No other vehicles or motorcycles were involved in the crash.

Stillwell was in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Sunday afternoon.
