GUILFORD, Maine — The U.S. Army will join this year’s Piscataquis River Festival on July 31 by contributing its rock band for a performance and pedal go-karts and a gaming trailer that houses arcade-style games for the entertainment of festival-goers.
Events organizer Carrie Fellows said recently that the festival “is on pace to be the biggest yet with more new activities joining the lineup” in the Lilac Capital of Maine.
In addition to the U.S. Army’s rock band, there will be live music by Borderline Express and The Palpitations.
A public breakfast at the Methodist church will be followed by a road race by Community Fitness and a large parade featuring Anah Temple Shrine clowns, marching units, assorted vehicles and floats. Arts and crafts will be displayed and on sale throughout the day.
The Miss Lilac Pageant will be held as will a chili cook-off, children’s games, a classic car cruise-in, a softball tournament, a bike rodeo for children, a duck race, and a canine costume contest organized by Log Cabin Labradoodles. To register for the canine contest event, contact Patty Barnes at 564-2229.
Afternoon activities include a tug-of-war showdown between local fire departments and ambulance crews.
Refreshments and River Festival hats will be on sale during the event.
