Oil spill statistics

Between April 20 and June 20 the oil leak into the gulf has been estimated to be between 20,000 barrels a day and 100,000 barrels a day. Worldwide use of petroleum is about 100 million barrels a day. Accepting the high leakage rate, we (worldwide) consume 1,000 barrels of petroleum z day for every barrel that leaks into the gulf.
