Reminder: State government closed today, Monday

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — It’s a Maine state government shutdown day, but parks will be open for those wanting to get an early start on the holiday weekend fun.

All Maine state parks, historic sites and campgrounds will be open on Friday, with park staff present. Maine Forest Service rangers also will remain on duty.

But most other state offices are closed on Friday. They’ll also be closed on Monday, the federal holiday commemorating July 4, which falls on Sunday.

Nine more shutdown days are scheduled through May 2011 as part of the law to balance the state budget.
