LUBEC, Maine — Rescue workers and members of Lubec’s Fire Department have been called to West Quoddy Head for the report of an unconscious man found on the rocks.

The man reportedly was unresponsive and the rocks were surrounded by water, according to dispatchers at the Washington County Regional Communications Center.

According to Deb Bridges at the West Quoddy Head Visitors Center, the man walked out a short ways to the rock before the tide came in and when other visitors shouted to him, he was unresponsive. Bridges said the man might have suffered a medical condition.

She said the tide was full at 3:45 p.m. and would be receding as the rescue proceeds. At 3:45 p.m., Bridges said rescuers had reached the man and were rendering aid. She did not know the man’s name or age but said it was an adult male. She said the incident was unfolding just below the lighthouse, off a hiking trail that leads to the water’s edge.
