USS Maine crew to visit namesake state

AUGUSTA, Maine — Some of the sailors who serve aboard the USS Maine nuclear-powered submarine are paying a visit to their namesake state.

The submarine crew is slated to fly into Portland on Thursday and visit the State House, Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, Brunswick Naval Air Station and Boston. On Sunday, they’ll be celebrating Fourth of July in Bath during the Heritage Days festival.

The sailors will also visit Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland and catch a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game on Sunday before returning to Bangor, Wash.
