PORTLAND, Maine — The boyfriend of Maine woman who had advertised as an escort on Craigslist and who went missing in New York is now wanted by police on charges unrelated to her disappearance.

WMTW-TV says the warrant for Akeem Cruz was issued Thursday after he failed to appear in Cumberland County Court in Portland to answer a charge of driving without a license.

Twenty-two-year-old Megan Waterman of Scarborough and Cruz went to New York Memorial Day weekend. She was reported missing on June 5. She was last seen in Hauppauge, N.Y.

Police say Waterman advertised as an escort on Craigslist and traveled regularly to New York.

Police have said they consider Cruz to be a witness to Waterman’s disappearance.
