BROOKS, Maine — Police are investigating two burglaries reported in the last two days that occurred fairly close to each other along Route 7, or Veteran’s Highway, in Brooks.

On Tuesday evening, a homeowner called the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department to report that someone had stolen a 46-inch Samsung HD flat-screen television, a PlayStation 3 and several games.

When deputies Arthur Smith and Dan Thompson responded to the call, they found the garage door had been forced open and someone had entered the home, according to Chief Deputy Robert Keating of the sheriff’s department.

At 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, another burglary was reported at the County View Golf Course in Brooks, not too far from the burglarized home.

Golf course employees told police that when a worker arrived in the morning, he or she noticed the business had been broken into by someone, and a cash register and laptop computer had been stolen.

Responding officers found the thief or thieves may have gained access through a garage door that led to the basement. There was approximately $150 in the cash register, Keating said.

“We don’t know at this point if the two are connected,” he said.
