NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Merrill Evan Cobb, 85, died Friday, June 18, 2010. Merrill was born in Lincoln. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radioman second class. He then earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine and a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts. Merrill served as superintendent of schools in Littleton, Mass., with 35 years of service. He then served as professor of education at University of Maine. He and his wife retired to Florida coming to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., in 1997 from Haines City, Fla. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Wilma; daughters, Jane Fronk of Sacramento, Calif., and Patricia Howard of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a son, Stephen Cobb of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; brother, Floyd Cobb of Lee; seven grandchildren, Todd Pressley, Seth Pressley, Alison Fronk, Ryan Howard, Amy Pixton, Emily Colon and Jaysen Cobb; and seven great-grandchildren, Hali, Devon, Aidee, Darek, Emma, Matthew and Owen.
