BLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy board of trustees has appointed Academic Dean Bayard Brokaw to serve as interim head of school for the 2010-11 academic year.
Brokaw will begin work on July 1, succeeding John Greene, who resigned earlier this year, and Jill Cohen, who has served as acting head since April.
Brokaw graduated from Bowdoin College where he majored in history, government and legal studies. He received a master’s degree in international studies from Denver University’s Graduate School of International Studies.
Brokaw joined the GSA faculty in 2002, serving first as dean of students and since 2005 as academic dean. Before coming to GSA, he was director of the Bay School in Blue Hill. Between 1992 and 1996 he helped launch and direct Souhegan High School in Amherst, Mass.
During the interim year, the board will conduct a national search for a permanent head of school to be in place a year from now.
