Maine golf hall of fame to honor three

    Laurie Hyndman of Cumberland Foreside, Bessie Fenn of South Poland and Frank Bartasius of Poland have been selected for induction into the Maine Golf Hall of Fame.

The annual Hall golf tourney and induction ceremony will be held Sept. 10 at Val Halla Golf Club in Cumberland. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. The reception starts at 5 p.m. with dinner and ceremony at 6 p.m.

Hyndman is a six-time Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association champion, a senior champion of the SMWGA and an eight-time club champion at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth.

Fenn is the daughter of 1993 Hall inductee Arthur Fenn. She became the first woman golf professional to be in charge of a club in the United States when she took over for her father at Poland Spring and Palm Beach GC in Florida. She won the 1919 South Florida Championship and competed at the national level for several years. She died in 1963.

Bartasius is a lifetime member of the Professional Golfers Association of America. He is the owner of the Fairlawn Golf Course in Poland and has made it one of the most affordable places to golf since 1961.

Fees are $90 per person for the Hall of Fame tourney and includes golf, a cart and banquet. The fee is $50 for golf and cart only and banquet only is $40. For more information call 368-4907.
