Jones wins third straight public links qualifying tournament

    PORTLAND — Ricky Jones of Thomaston won his third straight USGA Amateur Public Links Qualifier with a two-round score of 141 at Riverside Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday.

Joe Alvarez of Hampden finished threes strokes behind Jones and is the first alternate while Todd Kirn of Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk is the second alternate after finishing with a 145.

Jones shot a 2-under par 70 in the first round and 1-under 71 in the second round.

Jones advances to the 85th USGA Public Links National Championship on July 12-17 at Bryan Park Golf and Conference Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Other scores from the qualifier included: Trey Owen (150), Devon Miller (151), Pete Wright (152), David Gushee (152), Andrew Slattery (153), Chris Juntura (160), and Zack Sweet (164).
