Zippo, the name synonymous with lighters, has a new Outdoor Line to cater to the fire and heat demands of outdoors enthusiasts.
A few of the line includes the Campfire Starter featuring a blend of compressed cedar saw dust and wax for quick fire lighting even in the wettest conditions ($1.49); the Flexible Neck Utility Lighter, for lighting those hard-to-reach places ($19.95); and the Emergency Fire Starter, designed for rugged of outdoor situations; and the ultra-thin profile Hand Warmer ($19.95) that slides easily into pockets, gloves, pants and boots making it ideal for any outdoor activity. The Hand Warmer comes complete with a warming bag and handy filling cap and produces 10 times more heat than traditional warmers.
Campers and hikers will like the new Emergency Fire Starter features a reliable flint-wheel ignition and rayon-made waxed, water-resistant tinder sticks for quick and easy fire starting.
With a rugged metal exterior, the Emergency Fire Starter’s lid has a water-resistant O-ring seal to protect the tinder sticks. The suggested retail price is $19.95 with replacement waxed tinder sticks available in eight-unit packets at $4.95.
“When we launched the line in January, we thought that the product that would generate the most interest would be the Hand Warmer. We sold a similar version of the product last year and sold out. This year’s version has the same quality but is at a lower price,” said Pat Grandy, Zippo marketing communications manager.
“Instead the product that has generated the most interest has been the Emergency Fire Starter. This interest has come from buyers (who saw the line at the Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade Show show in Las Vegas), edi-tors and consumers. The Emergency Fire Starter has a great appeal because no fuel is required and the case is water resistant.”
This spring, the Emergency Fire Starter also was field tested by members of the North American Hunting Club. It achieved the club’s Recommended Seal of Approval.
The Emergency Fire Starter will be available at LL Bean later this summer.
