OTISFIELD, Maine — The 18th season of the Seeds of Peace camp is under way in western Maine.

More than 150 youths from Israel, the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the U.S. are on hand for Thursday’s opening in Otisfield.

More than 4,000 campers have attended Seeds of Peace since it was founded in 1993. Its aim is to bring together teenagers from countries in conflict in hopes of moving them beyond deep-rooted hatreds.

For the opening, each delegation sings its national anthem and the Seeds of Peace anthem before holding a flag-raising ceremony.

The camp is holding two sessions this summer. printed on March 30, 2017
