MACHIAS – Daniel Allen Geel passed away June 22, 2010, with his family at his side after a courageous fight with cancer. Daniel was born Aug. 15, 1962, in Calais, the son of late Austin and Laura (Dalem) Geel of East Machias. Daniel graduated from Washington Academy, East Machias, in 1981 and Calais Vocational School in 1982. He worked for the town of Machias for many years, as a dispatcher for the fire department. He also worked for the sewer department and for public works. He was a volunteer for Machias Fire Department for 17 years having been lieutenant, captain and second assistant fire chief before becoming sick. He was also a volunteer for Machiasport Fire Department for the past 17 years. Daniel enjoyed camping, fishing and four-wheeling. Daniel’s sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Daniel was predeceased by a sister, Deborah Cowperthwaite. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lisa (Wood) Geel of Machias; children, Christopher, Crystal, Amy Sue, Justyce and Gracie, all of Machias; brother, William Geel and his wife, Faye, of Trenton; sisters, Linda Richards and husband, Richard, of East Machias, Catherine Lord and her husband, Vernon, of Machias, and Mary Hinerman and her husband, Michael, of Machiasport; a godchild, Ellieonna Bransfield; special friend, Travis Preston; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. July 10 at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 220 Court St., Machias, with Pastor Holmes officiating. Interment will be after at Jacksonville Cemetery.
