OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Police say a Saco man was arrested for trying to abduct a 3-year-old boy in front of the child’s parents.

Thirty-seven-year-old Eric Auger is accused of grabbing the boy as he was playing outside the Pine Grove Cabins and Vacancy Pub in Old Orchard Beach on Tuesday while his parents watched from a nearby picnic table.

Police say the boy’s father ran after the man and pulled the boy away. The father tried to restrain the man but he ran away.

Police arrested Auger, who was walking on a nearby road.

The Portland Press Herald says he has a criminal history of disorderly conduct and drunken driving.
