Kay hits 4 homers in Lincoln sweep

    SEARSPORT, Maine — Andy Kay hit four home runs and a double to drive in 11 runs as the Lincoln Lumber swept an American Legion baseball doubleheader against Steamboat Petroleum of Waldo Saturday.

Lincoln won the first game 16-14 and the second game 13-8.

In the first game, A.J. Harris hit a grand slam to highlight an 11-run seventh inning for Lincoln. Kay hit a three-run home run while Lance Bernier hit two singles with two RBIs. Tyler Tash added a double and a single.

Cody Raven paced Steamboat with two singles and a two-run home run. Josiah Brazier doubled and singled with an RBI while Evan Kingsbury added two singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Kay hit three home runs and a double with eight RBIs to power Lincoln. Ivan Voisine posted two doubles, a single and an RBI.

Adam Heroux hit three singles and knocked in two runs for Steamboat Petroleum. Derrick Brunosky chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

Penquis, Calais split

At Dover-Foxcroft, Calais won the first game 4-2 behind a solid pitching outing by Tim Barnes, but Penquis rallied to win the second 11-10 with late heroics from Nick Harvey.

In the first game, Barnes scattered three hits while striking out nine batters and walking three to lead the Calais Suns.

Toby Woods’ RBI double scored the winning run in the seventh and he later scored on a fielder’s choice for an insurance run. He had two doubles while Ryan Schoppee added two singles.

Harvey had an RBI double and David Lord added a double for the Navigators.

In the second game, Harvey’s two-run double with two strikes and two outs in the bottom of the seventh scored the tying and winning runs.

Harvey finished with three singles and a double. Casey Jordan had two singles and three RBIs. Grant Hines had two singles and one RBI.

Schoppee had two singles and an RBI for Calais. Woods singled twice and Andy Brown hit a two run single.

Riverdogs, Acadians split

At Hampden, Justin Rodgerson hit a three-run triple to highlight a nine-run sixth inning as the Hampden-Newport Riverdogs avoided the sweep with a 13-8 win in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.

The Acadians topped the Riverdogs in the first game 13-12.

In the first game, Chase Bickford hit an RBI single in the four-run sixth inning to knock in the winning run for the Acadians. Devon Young and Brad Folmer each posted two doubles and an RBI.

Cody Miller paced Hampden with a home run, two singles and three RBIs. Derek Amoroso added a double, a single and two RBIs.

  In the second game, Cody Miller and Nolan Turner each hit three singles and drove in two runs for the Riverdogs.

Tom Crowe hit two singles and knocked in two runs to pace the Acadians. Nick Saunders added a double and two RBIs.

Comrades sweep Motor City

At Mahaney Diamond in Bangor, Jack Stacey collected two doubles, a single, two runs scored and two RBIs to spark the Bangor Comrades by Motor City 16-7 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.

The Comrades defeated Motor City 13-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Jordan Clark posted a triple, a single and an RBI for Bangor. Joe Stanevicz doubled and singled with an RBI while Nate Lewis and Cody McInnis added two singles apiece.

Casey Estes paced Motor City with two singles, a double and an RBI. Jonathan Johnson hit a three-run triple while Ryan Carr singled twice.

In the second game, Stanevicz pitched six innings to earn the win for the Comrades and helped his own cause with three singles. Anthony Capuano tallied three singles and two RBIs. Devin Lyshon hit a three-run double and a single while Josiah Hartley added an RBI double and a single.

Cody Cross hit a solo home run and a single to pace Motor City. Jonathan Johnson chipped in with two singles.
