SEDGWICK – Donald Spencer Bowes, 77, died June 13, 2010, at his residence. He was born, Dec. 15, 1932, in Washington, D.C., the son of Spencer P. and Fern H. (Painter) Bowes. Don was a retired U.S. Army officer and retired U.S. government civil servant. He had many hobbies, including photography, amateur radio, woodworking, music and any outdoor recreation. He was a member of Ellsworth Rotary Club, where he held the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, Bagaduce Chorale, Thursday Men’s Lunch Club, Amateur Radio Service, Military Affiliate Radio System and Deer Isle Congregational Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marta (Janssen) Bowes of Sedgwick; sons, Daniel Spencer Bowes of West Virginia and children, Carmen Bowes and Josh Bowes, and Andrew Wallace Bowes and wife, Anne, and children, Kaitlin Bowes and Benjamin Bowes of Virginia; and daughter, Caroline Bowes Griswold and husband, Steven, and children, Jennifer, Elise and Spencer Griswold of Georgia. A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Deer Isle Congregational Church, Deer Isle, with the Rev. Alice Hildebrand officiating.
