HARMONY, Maine — A Wellington man who allegedly held his family hostage in a bedroom Monday night was arrested and charged Tuesday afternoon with criminal threatening with a firearm.

Steven Lake, 35, of Wellington allegedly held his wife and children in a bedroom for several hours Monday night, threatening to kill them and-or himself, Lt. Robert Young of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday. Lake allegedly held a 9 mm pistol during the incident, he said.

It was after Lake had gone to work Tuesday at his family’s heating business in Harmony that police were told about the incident, Young said. At the time of Lake’s arrest, he was armed with a different pistol, the officer said.

Deputies arrested Lake in Harmony and he was taken to the Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft. He was booked and then released on $2,000 cash bail.
