PORTLAND, Maine — Authorities in Maine say members of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department have tracked down and arrested a prisoner who walked away from a work release program.

The sheriff’s department says 25-year-old Misty Sargent of Westbrook was captured at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Pleasant Street in Portland, one day after she disappeared.

The Sheriff’s department says Sargent has been returned to the jail and now faces new charges stemming from the escape.

Sargent was in the news in March when she pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorized taking for her role in what police called an adoption scam.

Investigators claimed Sargent promised her unborn baby to couples in California and New Jersey and took money from them before giving the baby to a couple from New York.
