Harmony woman dies after Parkman motorcycle accident

By Diana Bowley, BDN Staff

PARKMAN — A Harmony woman died Tuesday from injuries caused when the motorcycle she was riding on collided with a car on Route 150 in Parkman.

Kim Hall, 47, who was believed to be a passenger on the motorcycle, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Lt. Wesley Hussey of the Maine State Police.

Hall’s husband, Steve Hall, 51, who was believed to be the driver of the motorcycle, remained Wednesday in the intensive care unit at EMMC, where he is being treated for his injuries, Hussey said.

His condition was upgraded to fair Wednesday evening.

The couple was airlifted after the accident by LifeFlight helicopter. One patient was taken to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft and the other directly to EMMC. The patient at Mayo later was transferred to the Bangor hospital, according to Tom Lizotte, Mayo’s director of marketing and development.

Steve Hall was listed in serious condition Wednesday afternoon at EMMC.

The Halls had been northbound at about 3:10 p.m. when they came upon a slow-moving northbound farm truck that was followed by a car, Hussey said. The farm truck turned into a driveway and the car was attempting to turn into the same driveway when it appeared the motorcycle pulled out to pass, he said Wednesday. The two vehicles collided and the impact threw both of the motorcycle riders. It is not known whether the Halls were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, he said.

The driver of the car, Mary Kay Santoro, 54, of Parkman, told police at the scene that she was signaling to turn into her driveway when the motorcycle struck her vehicle. She was shaken up but uninjured.

Hussey said the accident was reconstructed. The investigation into its cause will continue and the case will be presented to Piscataquis County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy for his review to determine whether any charges should be filed, he said.
