PORTLAND, Maine — Transportation officials say a major repaving project begins this week on busy Interstate 295 through Portland.
Work starts Wednesday on a project that covers an 11.5-mile stretch of the southbound lanes of I-295 from Falmouth through Portland into Scarborough.
Besides repaving the southbound lanes, transportation crews will install guardrails in the highway median to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming lanes.
Officials say two lanes will remain open during the days, with any lane closures taking place only at night when traffic is lighter.
The $12.2-million project is scheduled for completion in December.
