PITTSFIELD, Maine — The SAD 53 board of directors has approved a one-year labor contract for more than 40 support personnel, including educational technicians and custodians.
According to Superintendent Michael Gallagher, the board approved the contract unanimously after an executive session last Thursday. Members of the support staff had ratified the agreement earlier in the week, said Gallagher.
The new contract, which begins July 1, includes a 1 percent pay increase as well as an additional paid holiday and sick day. The staffers will now be eligible to accumulate up to 15 days of sick time if they don’t use their allotted amount each year.
There is also a stipulation for carrying over vacation time, which Gallagher said puts into writing what has always been the practice.
In addition, single subscribers for health insurance will now have 100 percent of the previous year’s premium amount paid. That means that if health insurance premiums go up, the district will pay the previous year’s amount, but not the increase.
Gallagher said the district has no other labor contracts outstanding.
