Chinese businessmen to pay visit to Maine

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A delegation of Chinese businessmen is coming to Maine to explore opportunities with the state’s lobster, blueberry and aquaculture industries.

Independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler said Monday the contingent is coming at his invitation and includes executives with a large Chinese food importer, a Chinese investment fund and other companies.

The group on Friday plans to go out with a lobster fisherman on Casco Bay and tour lobster processor Portland Shellfish Co. Other visits are planned to Jasper Wyman & Sons blueberry company in Cherryfield and Maine Halibut Farms in Franklin.

Cutler said the group plans to explore the possibility of making purchases of lobster, blueberries and other Maine products, and examine investment opportunities in the state’s aquaculture industry.
