Bangor spray-paint vandals hit Hammond, Allen streets

Bangor police have received more than 10 reports of vandalism with spray paint — some featuring a large smiley face — over the last two days, Sgt. Paul Edwards said on Thursday.

Police received the first five reports between 6:15 and 7 a.m. Wednesday. Four residents on Allen Street and one on nearby Hammond Street reported to police that their property had been damaged by spray paint, Edwards said.

Three more reports were taken Wednesday evening and three others were reported to police on Thursday. All of the subsequent reports are from residents in the Hammond Street area, Edwards said.

Police are stepping up patrols in the area and are asking the public to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

“If you see someone with a spray can sticking out of their back pocket, we would appreciate a call,” Edwards said.

Those with information about the investigation can call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7385. The department’s anonymous tip line can be reached by pressing extension 6. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
