LEWISTON, Maine — Local police say a series of explosions most likely was fireworks.

But police in Lewiston are continuing to investigate the blasts that prompted officers to descend on Birch Street on Wednesday night with their guns drawn.

The Sun Journal newspaper says the blasts were reported about 9 p.m.

Police searched an apartment house and several people were detained, but no arrests had been made by 10 p.m.
