A group of young adults reportedly vandalized vehicles on State Street in Bangor early Wednesday, and a few hours later someone spray painted a car and several other items around Allen Street, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Bangor police officers are investigating a total of nine criminal mischief reports dealing with the two crimes. The first four reports, which all were filed a few minutes before 4 a.m., dealt with the group on State Street.

Eyewitnesses reported a group of six to eight young men, around age 18 or 19, jumping on vehicles parked along the roadway.

“Evidence was taken,” Edwards said. There was damage, “so it is criminal mischief.”

Between 6:15 and 7 a.m., four residents on Allen Street and one on nearby Hammond Street reported to police that their property had been damaged by spray paint, Edwards said.

The suspect or suspects sprayed a car, garage and houses.

A large smiley face was left behind during one of the crimes, the sergeant said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
