BANGOR, Maine — Rep. Steve Butterfield, who represents House District 16 in Bangor, held off a primary challenge by former representative and current City Councilor Pat Blanchette on Tuesday.

Butterfield, a Democrat, earned 222 votes to Blanchette’s 189 and now will face Republican Doug Damon, who ran unopposed in the primary, in the November general election.

Butterfield defeated Damon in the 2008 election and is vying for a second term.

Blanchette represented Bangor in Augusta from 2000 to 2008, when she was termed out. She has served several years on the Bangor City Council, dating back to the 1990s.
