RALPH F. LAPLANTE SR.

OLD TOWN – Ralph F. LaPlante Sr., 96, died peacefully June 7, 2010, at an Orono health care facility. He was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Old Town, a son of Frank and Alice (Parent) LaPlante. Ralph was employed at Brewer Manufacturing, Old Town, for many years and also owned a woodworking mill. He was a talented artist and painted many beautiful pictures. In earlier years, he spent many summers at Beech Hill Pond. He is survived by four children, Ralph LaPlante Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Old Town, Gail LaPlante of Bangor, Ronnie LaPlante and his wife, Dawn, of Alaska, and Carol Curtis and her husband, Arthur, of Eddington; daughter-in-law, Jeannette McCurdy of Brewer; and 14 grandchildren, Kristie Kochis, Margo Lonko, Brenda Gardner, Steven LaPlante, Karen Buck, Scott LaPlante, Arthur Curtis Jr., Kelli Kimball, Kim, Ricky, David and Jon Geroux, Stephanie and Jeff LaPlante. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Doris, in 2000; a son, Robert LaPlante; brother, Leo; and sisters, Jeanette, Doris, Bernice and Louise. The family thanks the staff at The Meadows and Orono Commons for their excellent care and compassion shown to Ralph. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society P.O.
