Man charged in 3-year-old arson fire

The Associated Press

PARIS, Maine — Fire investigators say they have charged a 34-year-old man with arson for a fire three years ago that destroyed a home in western Maine.

The state fire marshal’s office says Robert Conrad of Paris is being held on $50,000 bail after being charged Friday in connection with the March 13, 2007, fire that destroyed a home in Norway owned by Robert Walker. Walker is well-known in the area as the former track announcer at Oxford Plains Speedway and as a selectman in Norway.

Walker’s house was never rebuilt, and he now lives in a nursing home.

Officials say they charged Conrad after receiving new information about the 2007 fire while investigating another arson fire on Friday in Oxford. Conrad has not been charged in connection with the Oxford fire.
