Caribou man arrested for eluding police

CARIBOU, Maine — A local man was arrested Sunday after he attempted to flee on his motorcycle from police.

Kenneth Powers, 55, was arrested for criminal speed and eluding an officer and other motor vehicle violations, according to state police Sgt. Brian Harris.

Harris said Trooper Shawn Whalen attempted to stop Powers, who was riding a 1990 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, for speeding. Instead of stopping, Powers allegedly accelerated and turned onto Buck Road in an effort to flee from Whalen, he said.

Whalen pursued Powers and found him turning from Buck Road onto McBurnie Road. At that time, Powers pulled to the side of the road and stopped, ending the pursuit voluntarily, according to Harris.

It is not known when Powers will make his initial court appearance on the charges.
