PORTLAND, Maine — Tuesday’s primaries are prompting early activity in some Maine communities.

Portland was scheduled to open City Hall on Saturday morning to allow absentee voting and voter registration in advance of Tuesday’s primaries.

Voters will select party nominees for Maine governor and have their say on a number of bond issues and a public question.

Unenrolled voters can join a party up to and including June 8 in order to vote in the primary election. The referendum is open to all voters.

In Portland, the city clerk’s office was scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for residents who wanted to register to vote or to vote by absentee ballot for the election.
