CALAIS, Maine — Republican Dale Earle has announced his candidacy for sheriff of Washington County.
Earle was raised in Calais and graduated from the Calais High School. He holds a master’s degree in fire science and public safety management. He was a member of the Calais Fire Department and worked there full time as a fire safety officer. He began his career in law enforcement in Eastport as a patrolman. He later was hired by the Maine State Police and patrolled Washington and Hancock counties for almost six years.
Earle said illegal drugs are a major problem and the root of a large majority of the area’s thefts and burglaries.
“I will provide the citizens of Washington County with real law enforcement, tempered with common sense and fairness for all,” he said in a statement. “I pledge to protect and serve without selective enforcement. I will strive to work criminal cases to a satisfactory end if at all possible.”
