The next young woman who will represent Maine at the Miss America pageant will be crowned on June 19 at Brunswick’s Crooker Theater. The Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant will include 12 girls running for the title of Miss Maine. The winner will receive scholarship money for college, other in-kind gifts and the chance to represent the state at the national pageant.
Contestants for Miss Maine 2010 are:
Nicole Cayer, Rumford; Kelsey Earley, Lebanon; Shannon Folsom, Saco; Johanna Hauer, Kennebunk; Natasha Knight, Sidney; Aarika Knights, Lincoln; Rachel Menard, Bangor; Berkeley Schmidt, Portland; Marissa Sheltra, Scarborough; Maria Skillings, Portland; Courtney Valle, Lewiston; and Stephanie Veneziano, Bangor.
The Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant includes five phases of competition: Interview (25 percent), talent (35 percent), eveningwear (20 percent), swimsuit and fitness (15 percent) and onstage question (5 percent). Preliminary competitions will be held Friday, June 18, with the final night of competition Saturday, June 19.
Miss Maine is the official state preliminary of the Miss America Organization, one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
