GORHAM — Orono native and University of Southern Maine senior Emily Artesani was named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic All-District One second team in the collegiate division.

The psychology major and track and field athlete has a 3.81 cumulative GPA and has won eight Little East Conference indoor track and field titles and seven outdoor crowns.

Conner, who has a 3.90 GPA as a nursing major, won the mile at the America East Indoor Championship earlier this year after winning the individual cross-country women’s title in the fall and leading the Black Bears XC team to a runnerup finish in the AE championship meet. She also won a leg for Maine’s winning 4-by-800 meter relay team and finished second in two individual races this spring to help the Maine women finish second overall.

Artesani, the school record holder in the 200 meters (25.65 seconds), 400 indoor dash (59.32) and 400 outdoors (58.05), led the Huskies to the women’s team indoor title all four years. She was the LEC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 55-, 200- and 400-meter dashes in the conference finals.

Over her four-year career, Artesani earned 24 all-conference citations, 26 All-Alliance honors, 13 NCAA Division III All-New England selections and nine All-Eastern College Athletic Conference honors.

Bates College junior Dana Lindauer and senior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan as well as Colby College senior Katrina Gravel were also selected to the second team.
