Armed robbery suspects sought

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Police in Presque Isle still were searching Tuesday for two people suspected of armed robbery of a city business this weekend.

Sgt. Laurie Kelley of the Presque Isle Police Department said police have some suspects in connection with the Saturday evening robbery, but no one has been arrested at this point.

The incident happened at about 10 p.m., when a female employee at the gas station owned by Daigle Oil Co. on Main Street was cashing up for the day.

The employee was in her office with her back to the door when two men came into the building. The employee had not yet locked the gas station door, according to Kelley.

The two men had nylon stockings over their heads and were dressed completely in black. The female employee told police that one of the men had a gun tucked into the waistband of his pants.

The men demanded money and ran out of the store as soon as the employee gave them what money she had.

They escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Kelley.

Officers Peter Johnson, Cole Chandler and Lynn Hartley of the Presque Isle Police Department as well as the department’s bloodhound, Hunter, and his handler, Officer Kevin Schumacher, searched the area, but did not locate the suspects.

Kelley said that police are reviewing evidence.

“We do have a couple of leads,” she said Tuesday.
