LUBEC, Maine — A man was rescued Sunday in the Lubec Narrows after his 16-foot skiff flipped and he was thrown into the cold water.
According to Chris Berry, operational unit controller at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England in Portland, Wendall Small reportedly was putting out a mooring for his larger boat when his skiff became disabled. It capsized, and Small was being pulled out to sea with the tide, Berry said.
The incident was reported to the Coast Guard by an officer at the Lubec Customs House. The officer, whose name was unavailable, went out by boat with another person, and they pulled Small from the Narrows.
The Coast Guard dispatched a 25-foot boat and took Small to shore, where he was treated by local emergency crews for hypothermia.
Officials were not sure of Small’s town of residence.
