Your favorite gubernatorial candidate wins the primary and then the general – what will he or she do?

It’s difficult, but voters must extrapolate from experience and campaign rhetoric to determine just how a candidate will serve as Maine’s governor. Will some candidates clash with the Legislature more than others (particularly if the Legislature remains controlled by Democrats?) Which ones? Are some more likely to keep the status quo alive and well? Who will handle adversity – say, another economic downtown – well, and

who not so well? Some “outsider” candidates (Jimmy Carter comes to mind) are unable to chart a clear direction for the legislative branch to follow. Others are too dictatorial (George W. Bush?) and spur entrenched opposition. Where does your favorite candidate fall on this spectrum? Which ones will best be able to articulate a vision to residents and

legislators and lead them toward it?
