WATERVILLE, Maine — Funeral services were held for a soldier from Maine who died in Afghanistan.

The funeral for 21-year-old Army Spc. Wade Slack took place Sunday afternoon at Blessed Hope Adventist Church in his hometown of Waterville. Gov. John Baldacci, who attended the ceremony, ordered U.S. and Maine flags be flown at half staff until sunset.

Slack was killed May 9 by indirect fire from a rocket or mortar fired by insurgents. He was with the U.S. Army’s 707th Ordnance Battalion from Fort Lewis, Wash.
