BUCKSPORT, Maine — A computer hacker has taken over the social networking site of the white supremacist hate group that has been attempting to recruit young people in the area.
The group Logicalgamers.com posted messages on the MySpace page for the Bucksport Area White Youth Pride Party on Tuesday afternoon. One message read: “LOGICALGAMERS.COM HAS TAKEN OVER! NO MORE RACISIM! ITS WRONG AND HURTING PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY’RE DIFFERENT IS SHAMEFUL.”
According to the organizer of the self-proclaimed hate group, who identifies himself as “Proprietor Mutt,” the group’s e-mail account also was attacked and clogged with spam messages throughout the day Wednesday.
“It’s not the end of the world,” Proprietor Mutt said in a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon. “It’s an annoyance.”
He did say that the group no longer has access to the MySpace page and that it had been using a Gmail account to communicate.
“Obviously, it’s somebody local,” he said. “We expected something like this. Any group, regardless of what it represents, is going to have people who approve and who disapprove. I think this is an overreaction.”
Logicalgamers.com is an Internet gaming-discussion forum. Messages sent to Logicalgamers.com on Wednesday afternoon had not been returned by evening.
The hate group surfaced in April after members posted pamphlets at a few places around town seeking to recruit people ages 15 to 35.
Bucksport police and the Maine Attorney General’s Office indicated they are monitoring the situation, but noted that the group has not committed any crime by distributing fliers.
According to town officials there has been little or no other related activity.
Local reaction to the group has been generally negative, although Proprietor Mutt said the fliers have attracted some members. The group numbers about 40 members, according to Proprietor Mutt.
