Is the president’s Supreme Court nominee a wise choice?

President Barack Obama has nominated Elena Kagan for the open Supreme Court seat. She has never served as a judge. Is this a smart choice, because she has no record of rulings that might derail her endorsement? Is she qualified? Is she too progressive? Or does the president have the right to pick a justice who reflects his values?
