Maine officials say student killed on way to prom

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — School officials in Maine say a high school student killed on the way to a school prom was doing nothing wrong.

Police in Scarborough and school officials say Scarborough High School senior Stephen Delano was killed Saturday in a crash that injured three other students.

The Portland Press Herald says Delano and former classmate Kevin Grondin were on their way to the Gorham High School prom when the vehicle they were riding in with two girls was hit by a tractor trailer at around 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of Payne and Holmes roads.

Grondin was critically injured, but is expected to recover fully. The two girls were not seriously hurt.

Scarborough High School Principal Patricia Conant says there were no drugs or alcohol involved.
