Bangor police arrest man for burglary, theft

A 40-year-old man police described as a transient was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly stealing 60 returnable bottles, a Denver Nuggets shirt and a portable CD player with headphones from an apartment on Center Street.

After his arrest on burglary and theft charges, Antonio Burgos was taken to Penobscot County Jail, Bangor police Sgt. Larry Weber said. Burgos was still confined there Thursday night, a jail official confirmed.

According to police reports, Burgos reportedly was in an upstairs apartment at 120 Center St., which was unoccupied because it is undergoing renovations, when the building owner’s son, who is staying in a refurbished downstairs apartment, heard noises. The son went upstairs to investigate and found Burgos there, Weber said.

“The guy kept saying he had a right to be there, and the son kept saying, ‘No, you don’t,’” Weber said.

Burgos then went downstairs, carrying two large plastic bags. He left the building and started walking down Center Street, Weber said.

When police officers caught up with Burgos shortly afterward, he had the items in his possession, Weber said. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
