ANNE J. BROWN

BANGOR – Anne J. Brown, 98, wife of the late Dr. Eugene E. Brown, passed away April 25, 2010, at a local health care facility. She was born Jan. 10, 1912, on 82nd Street, Yorkville, New York City, the daughter of Samuel and Bertha (Wilgikowsky) Jacobs. Anne was a brilliant, nurturing and caring person who was always optimistic no matter what the circumstances. She went to Rutgers University for her undergraduate degree in teaching and Columbia University for her master’s degree in library sciences. Anne was the first teacher librarian in the public schools in the state of New Jersey. Later, she became a model and a buyer for Bamberger’s Department Store, Newark, N.J. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed fishing, was an outstanding pianist, golfer and bridge player who loved spending her winters in Palm Beach, Fla. Anne was a member of Hadassah, Beth Israel Sisterhood and Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary. Surviving are her sons, Arlon Brown and his wife, Lisa, of Southboro, Mass., and Jalon Brown of Framingham, Mass.; her granddaughters, Emily and Stephanie Brown of Southboro, Mass.; her sister, Evelyn Ortner of Short Hills, N.J.; her brother, Dr. Erwin Jacobs of Chester, Va.; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers. Graveside services were held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, N.J., with Rabbi Meyer Korbman officiating.
