Friends of lifelong Island Falls resident Laurie Breton are doing what they can to assist her family as she faces breast cancer, and you can help by attending a benefit potluck supper and auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the VFW Hall in that community.

The daughter of local residents Robert and Evelyn Dunphy, with two grown children and five grandchildren, Breton recently underwent surgery and has begun chemotherapy treatment.

Adding to their difficulties at this time is that her husband, Paul Breton, “was laid off from his job at National Starch when that company closed,” Cleo Skolfield said.

The fundraiser also will include a raffle of a quilt made by Laurie’s mother. If you cannot attend but want to make a donation or purchase quilt tickets, you can call Skolfield at 463-2186 or Evelyn Dunphy at 463-2440.
