PORTLAND, Maine — The family of a 16-year-old Maine high school student has dropped a challenge to the constitutionality of the Yarmouth High School honor code.

Attorney Michael Waxman tells the Portland Press Herald the girl has served her three-week suspension from the lacrosse team imposed after officials saw a photograph of her on a social networking web site holding a beer.

Earlier this month, a federal judge rejected a request by the girl and her family to set aside the punishment.

Waxman says he still believes the code is an unconstitutional extension of governmental power into the homes and lives of Yarmouth students.

School Committee Chairman David Ray says the code is constitutional.
