PITTSFIELD, Maine — The Sebasticook Valley Chamber of Commerce is preparing for an event that in its 14-year history has grown from a business networking opportunity to an event designed for the whole family.

Chamber Director Brenda Seekins said the annual Trade Show and Community Fair is still focused on businesses, but that the additional activities going on this year will enhance the experience for both participants and visitors.

Aside from the trade show, organizers have added an arts and crafts fair and a community day.

“It’s a marketing opportunity for our members and a fundraiser for our Chamber,” said Seekins, who said there will be more than 50 booths displaying everything from a business’s products to handmade hair clips.

“Now that we’ve added a variety of crafts, we’re hoping that will bring in a lot of new people,” she said.

The event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the side-by-side Warsaw and Vickery Schools at 167 School St., Pittsfield. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 2 to 12.

A healthful dessert contest with cash prizes will also be held in two age categories: one for adults and another for ages 15 or younger. The entry fee for the dessert contest is $5 and all entries must contain 1 cup of fruit or vegetables and a copy of the recipe.

The local Kiwanis Club will hold a bicycle rodeo and Skowhegan Savings Bank will provide May baskets to take home. Children 14 and younger are invited to participate in May Day dancing and activities sponsored by Chalice Boutique. There will also be a farmers market and several presentations on topics including nutri-tional cooking, dividing perennials, pruning fruit trees, tomato blight and alternative energy. Scheduled events are as follows:

• 10 a.m.— Greater Pittsfield Area Kiwanis Bike Rodeo and a community health needs presentation by HealthySV.

• 11 a.m. — Alternative energy presentation by Evolo Energy Solutions and judging of the youth dessert contest.

• 11:30 a.m. — Adult dessert contest judging and a nutritional cooking workshop for kids by HealthySV.

• 12:30 p.m. — Nutritional workshop for adults and alternative energy presentation by Evolo Energy Solutions.
