GRAY, Maine — Maine police say a father who shot and killed his autistic son at their Gray home may have been worried about who would care for his son after he and his wife died.

Police identified the victims as 44-year-old Daniel McLatchie and 22-year-old Benjamin McLatchie.

Maine State Police Sgt. Chris Harriman tells the Portland Press Herald Daniel McLatchie was a stay-at-home father and he may have been worried about who would care for his son in the future.

The bodies were discovered at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A rifle was found near the bodies. Harriman says investigators don’t believe anyone else was involved, but he wouldn’t classify the case as a murder suicide.

Autopsies are due to be conducted Wednesday on the bodies.
